Recognition of Prior Learning is a method of assessment (leading to the achievement of an award) that considers whether a learner can demonstrate that they can meet the assessment requirements for a unit through the knowledge, understanding or skills that they already possess and so, do not need to develop these through a course of learning.
SLSGB allows recognition of prior learning or fast tracking for selected awards or units. For example, awards that are recognised by the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS) as meeting the same standards as an SLSGB award will be recognised for the given criteria provided they are current.
SLSGB are currently accepting applications for RPL for the following awards;
- Level 1 Assistant Coach
- Level 2 Lead Coach
- Trainer Assessor
- Lifeguard
- IRB Crew
- IRB Driver
- Rescue Water Craft (RWC)
- Level 1 Coach Fast Track
- Level 2 Coach Fast Track
- Inland Waters Lifeguard
For further information on what you need to do to apply for RPL download the relevant RPL form for the role you wish to achieve.
However, all recognition of prior learning will be considered on an individual basis and is dependent upon a satisfactory portfolio of evidence being provided to SLSGB, which will then be graded against set criteria. Subsequent SLSGB rules and certification fees specified in this manual for the specific awards apply. SLSGB specific proficiency requirements and validity time frames will also apply to any award achieved through RPL or fast tracking.
