Lockdown 3.0 – Now is the time to Get Ready to be back on the Beach

Of course, it’s distressing and frustrating to be back in lockdown again with all the associated personal, family, social, economic and practical problems and now, no face-to-face club activity, but at last we have the opportunity to get ahead of the COVID virus and with the vaccination programme, the prospect of a return to full activity in the early summer of 2021.

We are working flat out to support you to be ready to be Back on the Beach as soon as possible:-

By the end of January we will have planned a full Return to sport Programme
We already have a detailed plan for 2 day Regional Beach Events that in 2021 gained Local Authority approval and are set up for COVID safe distance (No Flags but most of all the other events)  These will be scheduled for mid -summer

We are working now on Regional Pool Events to be run in September/October

We will be booking pool space for our 2022 Pool National Championships scheduled for March and confirming the location and dates for our 2022 National Surf Championships

Get Ready – Beach Wardens will be needed Again!
As the weather improves, we know that the public will push to use our beaches and we will be confronted again with a gap in Beach Lifeguard cover.  In 2020 our Beach Wardens made over 3,000 safety interventions.  THIS SAVED LIVES – We will be encouraging and supporting our clubs to be ready to deploy Beach Wardens (online training will be available again)

Physical Training
We already have approved outdoor training activity fully compliant with the Government Return to Sport programme.  As soon as we revert to the lower Tiers, this will be able to recommence.  We know that Government is very aware of wellbeing issues, particularly for young people and anticipate an early return to the 6 People Bubble activity

Online Training
We already have a significant resource of online training materials and have been continuously running focussed training for those having to manage COVID issues. Details of courses and modules that can be trained online will be posted on the website by the end of next week.

New Lifeguard Module We will shortly be issuing a new COVID Specific Module as a Myagi online course for those holding valid Beach, Surf Lifeguard and Lifesaver awards (More information on this during January)

Until proficiency courses can restart we will continue to offer self- declaration renewal of Lifeguard awards as they expire. The self declaration from can be downloaded here

The Future
Our shared experience over the last 11 months has been a terrible journey on so many levels bringing tragedy, hardship and many new tough challenges.
As a Lifesaving Family with the combined strength of our Lifesaving communities and values we have been better equipped than many others to support each other and learn and adapt to confront and overcome many of these problems.

Let’s now collectively look forward with hope and confidence to get ready for what we do best, it’s not all that far away!
