WE ARE THINKING ABOUT YOU AND LISTENING TO YOU!
In the rapidly escalating crisis created by COVID-19 and the impact that this is having on our communities, your skills and experience as a qualified Lifesaver can provide essential help for those in your communities both now and in the future.
There has been a fantastic response by untrained volunteers to help take food and other essential supplies to those who are now having to self-isolate.
During the coming weeks, we know that organised community groups are looking for more specialised volunteers to help support with non-medical issues such as providing guidance on safety, control of spaces, organisation of community logistics activities and providing essential welfare support. They are looking for qualified lifesavers.
As the crisis reduces and controls are eased, beaches will become more busy
When the crisis ends and movement restrictions are reduced, if this coincides with summer weather, beach activity will explode. We need to be ready for this
ACCORDINGLY AND WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, WE WILL RENEW ALL LIFEGUARD, LIFESAVER AND SURF COACH SAFETY AND RESCUE AWARDS TO ENABLE YOU TO VOLUNTEER WITH THE CONFIDENCE OF A RELEVANT LIFESAVING AWARD
If you can provide self-declared evidence of use of the award during 2019 accompanied by your confirmation of current fitness levels, you will not be required to undertake any of the proficiency tests and can start to renew your award by clicking here
The award will be renewed for 12 months from the date of issue.
You will not be required to produce evidence of CPR CPD but a condition of renewal is your acceptance to abide by the latest SLSGB guidance for resuscitation. To see this click here
Renewal of your award for 2021 will require a more detailed proficiency process which will require face to face attendance at a revised proficiency training session. You will need to show evidence of relevant swim competencies, demonstration of tube and board and undertake a CPR test. Full details for this will be established later this year and all our TA’s will be provided with retraining packages
We know that this is a change in strategy and apologise for the confusion but as the situation has changed we promised continuous review and we have responded!
