The Nipper Lifesaver pathway is the first interactive and exciting step to lifesaving for members aged 7-13 years old.
Why enrol on the Nipper Lifesaver pathway?
In addition to making friends and having fun it provides youngsters with the opportunity to:
- Become confident in the ocean
- Start mastering the skills and knowledge needed to keep themselves and friends safe at the beach
- Receive Ocean star awards as skills and confidence builds which also allow Nippers to enter the regional and national championships
How is the pathway structured?
The Pathway follows the Physical Education National Curriculum Coaching Guidelines to ensure that at each age group state it is fit for purpose for important lifesaving and sports elements.
How many stages are there?
There are 3 stages within the Nipper pathway; Bronze, Silver and Gold. Below are the details for each stage
How is progress recorded?
All children on the Nipper pathway will receive a dedicated Nipper Log Book.
The log book provides a place for progress against tasks to be recorded but also offers choices and provides Club Trainers with a framework to organise sessions according to the ability of the child with clear and easy to achieve goals.

Within each stage the following are achieved;
Knowledge Awards
These show successful completion of the key safety points that a child needs to know at each stage as they progress through the Nipper pathway
Ocean Star Awards & Pin badges
These are awarded to recognise a child’s abilities and skills in the water on the journey to become a competent lifesaver.
Award achievement certificates
These recognise when a child has completed all parts of an award level.
