IRB Officials Accreditation Course
This will take place at Bournemouth BC surf school – East Overcliff Beach, Boscombe from 12:30pm. The cost is £10 and attendees will receive an SLSGB certificate of attendance, IRB OFFICIAL clothing and course material. All participants must officiate at two IRB events to qualify and there are limited places so please email
irbsport@slsgb.org.uk to reserve a place.
Events and Rule changes
The events being contested will be; Rescue, Tube, Mass and Teams. Both male & female events will be run. There will be a maximum of three teams per club. Engines will be supplied by the RNLI. All boats used will be Arancia 388’s that clubs will bring. However, if you do not have a boat you can still attend and compete.
A new set of rules are available for download
here. The main changes will be to the start which will require the driver to run to the boat whilst the crewman holds it (same as for a mass rescue change over) and some potential changes to the DQ rules which will involve them being split into ‘Safety DQ’s and Technical DQ’s. A Safety DQ will result in no points being awarded whilst a Technical DQ will result in the team getting last place.
Accommodation at European & British IRB Competitions
SLSGB has negotiated a special rate at the Mount Stuart Hotel. This local hotel will be the formal HQ for the event and clubs can book direct quoting ‘IRB Event’ to get the special rate. The hotel has a mix of rooms and prices are good.
Event Party
This will be held with the Surf Boat Rowers on Sat 26th at the Rowing Club near the Pier in Bournemouth. If you would like to attend it is only £5 a ticket which includes a buffet. Click
here to reserve your place.
Volunteer Help
If you are able to volunteer and help at either event, we have many different opportunities for you. If you are interested, please click here.
SLSA Wales
The following statement clarifies the position of SLSA Wales.
The Surf Life Saving Association of Wales is an independent association recognized as the governing body for Surf Life Saving within Wales. Whilst SLSA Wales is happy to work in partnership with any other ‘like minded’ body it would like to make clear that it is not governed by or does not have any formal links with SLSGB and is not currently exploring or will not be seeking any ‘governance relationship’ with the Board of SLSGB.
The Powercraft Commission of SLSA Wales wish SLSGB every success with its IRB Sports Group. Furthermore SLSA Wales Powercraft is more than happy to discuss any future IRB related issues with SLSGB on an equal ‘partnership’ basis as independent governing bodies involved in Surf Life Saving. If you have any further questions, please email Emma Phillps at ephillips@slsgb.org.uk.
