New Qualifications & Awards Guide Released

The SLSGB Qualifications and Awards guide has been reviewed and there are many important updates. Please click here  to download the guide.

There are numerous important elements, such as the:

• Updated process for assessing and verifying.
  
• Descriptions for Educator roles of Tutor, Trainer, Assessor, Verifier and Inspector
  
• Updated Qualifications for occupational roles
  
• Update Participant level Awards and Competencies for competitions
  
• Updated Centre Level Awards

It is important to note that SLSGB now has 3 Lifeguard Awards each for a different purpose:

• Surf Lifeguard
  
• Beach Lifeguard
  
• Inland Waters Lifeguard

Surf Lifeguard

The SLSGB Surf Lifeguard award exceeds International Life Saving standards for a lifeguard and requires individuals to complete a sub 7minute 30second swim for 400 metre distance in the pool. It also requires candidates to complete rescues with a paddle board and other rescue equipment as well as showing competence in surf conditions as well as Beach Lifeguard criteria. All individuals who had up to date SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Awards registered in the system, will have their Awards renamed to become SLSGB Surf Lifeguard.

Beach Lifeguard

The SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award meets the minimum ILS criteria to become a Beach Life Guard. It does not require candidates to use a paddle board, only rescue equipment for rescue elements of the award, it also only requires participants to complete a sub 8minute swim time for 400m swim in the pool. This award is ideal for individuals who will not lifeguard in a surf environment, and may not necessarily use a rescue board for rescues.

Inland Waters Lifeguard

The SLSGB Inland Waters Lifeguard meets International Life Saving Criteria for Beach Lifeguarding, but also has a unit that covers content specific to inland waters environments not covered in a Beach Lifeguard Qualification.
