Great Britain and Northern Ireland Selection Process announced
SLSGB and RLSS UKhave announced the selection process for Great Britain and Northern Ireland Life Saving team.
Both Senior and Junior Teams are selected by the Team Manager supported by the Assistant Manager following the selection criteria below as agreed by the Joint GB & NI Steering Group. The selection process is verified by SLSGB and RLSS UK Performance Directors.
GB & NI Team Objective for Rescue 2012 and the European Junior Championships 2012:
To achieve maximum points Score for the GB & NI Team. This means the aim is to select athletes with recognised potential to contribute across a range of events and achieve the highest aggregate team score. Whilst there is a desire to take potential medallists for individual events these athletes may not be selected if they have limited potential across other events.
GB & NI Team Selection Process
Seniors
Athletes will be selected based on performances at the following events only:
• SLSGB ranking events on 2nd June and 1st July. SLSGB National Championships 8th/9th September. Athletes aiming for selection must compete in at least one ranking event as well as the National Championships.
And:
• Athletes must compete at either the RLSS UK National Speed Championships or the SLSGB British Life Saving Pool Championships.
Athletes training abroad and unable to attend selection events are required to apply for exemption and gain approval from the Team Manager to achieve competitive results at recognised ILS or “approved” events between the periods of 3rd March – 1st September 2012.
Juniors
Athletes will be selected based on performances at the following events only:
• SLSGB ranking events on 2nd June and 1st July. Athletes must compete in both ranking events.
And:
• Athletes must compete at either the RLSS UK National Speed Championships or the SLSGB British Life Saving Pool Championships.
Athletes training abroad or unable to attend selection events are required to apply for exemption and gain approval from the Team Manager to achieve competitive results at recognised ILS or “approved” events between the periods of 3rd March – 1st July 2012
NB From the events listed above a small squad of athletes will be identified to attend a selection camp where the final team will be chosen.

Competition Dates
Rescue 2012 will be held in Adelaide, South Australia, from November 7th-11th
The European Youth Championships will be held in Jonkoping, Sweden from August 16th-19th
