Success for Hayle beach lifeguard candidates

For seven members of Hayle Surf Life Saving Club summer wasn’t quite over on Sunday 13 November when they undertook their assessment for their SLSGB Beach Lifeguard qualification.  The all day assessment put them through their paces in the sea by demonstrating that they had mastered all the skills and knowledge to get conscious and unconscious patients safely back to dry land by Rescue Board or clipped into a Torpedo.  Back in the clubhouse their first aid knowledge, resuscitation skills and understanding of the beach and sea environment were thoroughly tested by Assessors John (Jock) Paton and John (JB) Broad.

Course Instructors, Jamie Smith and Steve Penberthy were very pleased that all seven candidates obtained their Beach Lifeguard qualification and hoped that it would enable those that wished to, to obtain jobs with the RNLI next summer on our busy beaches.   Ian Gabbitas, Louise Fowler, Nick Jones, Ollie Caroll and Daire Peters were all taking the exam for the first time whilst Dave Parker and Tom Trewhella were renewing their qualification which lasts for two years.
