Hayle volunteer James celebrates county award 

James Burlingham of Hayle Surf Lifesaving Club is celebrating being voted Cornwall’s ‘Community Volunteer of the Year ‘(Under 25) for 2011 at the Cornwall Sports Awards 2011.James Burlingham

James, 23, was nominated for the award in recognition of the huge amount of time and boundless energy he gives to the Nipper & Junior sections at Hayle Surf Lifesaving Club to ensure that their young people are given the opportunity to take part and progress in an atmosphere of enjoyment and fun.

Organised by the Cornwall Sports Partnership, the event is now in its sixth year of celebrating and paying tribute to the many volunteers across the county who dedicate their time and efforts to supporting the county’s sports community. The annual event welcomed over 200 attendees from across Cornwall; including special guests ex England rugby captain Phil de Glanville and Team GB athlete Mark Lewarne.

After receiving his trophy from Jon Coleman of Sports Leaders UK over 200 guests were treated to a short video of James in action taking a Nipper session at Penzance Leisure Centre and featuring endorsements from club members.
