2011 Inshore Rescue Boat European Champions in Mass Rescue event at Bournemouth
Hayle Surf Life Saving Club’s Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) team had the best weather of the Summer when they attended the National & European Champs at Bournemouth on 1/2 October, but then that's been the case for the last few years! They all had a fantastic time, did really well against stiff competition, came home with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 Bronze medals and became European Champions in the Mass Rescue Event. They were 5th overall in both competitions but this lower placing was due to them not having a Ladies team taking part - something to aim for next year!
Team Manager, Martin Burgess said “It was a fantastic event, one of the best yet so a big thanks to SLSGB for their organisation of both Championships. Because the weather was so good there were plenty of people on the beach and pier at Bournemouth which resulted in a huge crowd watching the very exciting racing that went on over the two days. Our team did very well finishing in 3rd place in the Men’s National Champs only 1.5 points behind Bantham SLSC with Saunton Sands taking 1st in the Men’s, Women’s and overall. The European Championships attracted teams from Belgium, Poland, Latvia and Germany. For more information about our Club please look at our website.”
