Total Club Quality Scheme & Clubmark

Since launching our in-house quality assurance scheme Total Club (Pilot) in April 2010, ten clubs have been working towards the nationally recognised ‘Clubmark’ status and becoming even more to committed to developing their clubs through participating in the lifesaving specific tailored training package; with advice, support and guidance to increase the skill specific key decision makers in the club. Participating clubs have seen development of their people, member services and welfare, community links and management. The following ten clubs are currently being supported through the 9-12 month process towards Total Club accreditation;

 Devon

·         Woolacombe SLSC

 Dorset

·         Branksome Chine SLSC

·         Poole Lifeguards

 Cornwall

·         Perranporth SLSC

·         Portreath SLSC

·         Cornwall College SLSC

·         Gyllyngvase SLSC - Clubmark Accredited

 Sussex

·         Brighton SLSC

·         Seaford SLSC

 Wales

·         Rhoose Lifeguard Club

Total Club, valued at over £1300, was initially funded by clubs accessing LMAS funding. Sadly, this funding stream dried up in May following changes in Government. We were however fortunate to secure funding to secure alternative funding through Awards4All to continue to support more clubs. As we continue to invest in our clubs so that they can offer more to their members and continue to grow, we want to see more clubs getting involved with Total Club and take advantage of all the services and opportunities that could potentially arise from the process of working towards quality assurance.

Gyllyngvase SLSC President, Matt Stone lead the club to achieve Clubmark accreditation over the last year and here’s what he has to stay about it...

‘Gyllyngvase SLSC signed up for the Clubmark programme to ensure that we have excellent standards in club management, safeguarding and protecting children and young people as well as getting the club integrated within the local community...It is important to plan ahead as the journey can take longer than initially expected and to involve as many members of the committee as possible to gather information and evidence.

We found that we were fulfilling much of the criteria before we even began the process, and we simply needed to collect the evidence to back it up. (Now)...we will be able to highlight our commitment to providing a successful, safe and well managed surf life saving and triathlon club to our community’.
