Newquay Surf Life Saving Club

Our clubhouse is situated within the Fistral Surf Complex and we meet there throughout the summer – usually from the beginning of May to the end of September.  During the remaining months we meet at Waterworld.  All parents are welcome to join us in the clubhouse on clubnights for a cup of coffee/tea or other refreshment for just a small charge.

The club is run in three age groups:-
Nippers   –  7 to 12/13
Youth     –  13 to 18
Seniors   –  19 plus

A committee is responsible for the general running of the club. An AGM is held each year which is open to all members and parents. Nick Pendreich, Paul Price, Jack Daniels and Jack Butler are our Beach Lifeguard Award Instructors.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

To promote water safety, develop beach life saving techniques and to encourage active participation in SLS competitions and SLSGB awards.

To provide facilities for exercise to all members regardless of their ability and to provide equality of opportunity within all aspects of club life.

TRAINING NIGHTS

Nippers – Thursdays
Summer – 6.15 pm – 7.45 pm
Winter 6pm – 7pm

Older Nippers/Youth – Mondays
Summer 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm
Winter 8 pm – 9 pm (mondays)

Seniors & Masters –
Summer 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm on wednesdays
Winter 7 pm to 8 pm on tuesdays

Beach Lifeguard Instruction—Wednesdays
Time as agreed with instructor

CLUB RULES

The safety of your children is our prime consideration at all times. Therefore we ask that the following rules are always adhered to.
Club hats must be worn at all times on clubnights whilst at the beach.
Children under secondary school age must be collected from the clubhouse by a parent or guardian and checked out with an official of the club – 20 minutes max in car park for drop off and pick up unless you have a locals pass
Clubnights at the beach are from 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm. All gear must be returned to the clubhouse/store at this time. Use of club equipment after this time will be at the discretion of the managers, the safety of your children will then be your responsibility.
Members are expected to attend clubnights on a regular basis although there will always be times when absence is acceptable e.g.sickness/holidays. To try to keep our membership waiting list to a minimum the three week rule will be enforced. Any member not attending training sessions for 3 consecutive weeks without prior advice to a committee member will have their membership withdrawn and must reapply via the waiting list system.  However, each case will be assessed individually.
Warm Beachwear must be brought to the beach each week throughout the summer as well as swimming gear as it may not always be possible to go into the water.

COMMUNICATION

We send regular Newsletters by email, or in paper format where required, and have notice boards at the clubhouse where we display information. Please ensure that you read all communications so that you can be kept up to date.  Please also familiarise yourself with our Child Protection Policy on display in the clubhouse.

SOCIAL EVENTS

We try to be a very sociable club and  run several social and/or fund raising events throughout the year.  Please support us in our efforts so that we can continue to provide the best possible club environment for yourselves and your children.  Additionally, if you would like to get more involved with the club please speak to any of the committee members.

Training is available for anyone who is interested in helping on a regular basis— which does not have to be every week!
