This year as part of the SLSGB Educator Practical CPD Weekend 2018 we are hosting a question and answer session during the evening social event with two extremely respected names within the worlds of search and rescue response and extreme environment survival, Dr Paddy Morgan and Professor Mike Tipton MBE. Many of you will already know both and will have benefited from their input into our training and medical governance.
Dr Paddy Morgan is an Anaesthetic Consultant in Bristol’s Major Trauma Centre; Critical Care Doctor with Great Western Air Ambulance; and until recently he was a technical rope and water rescue technician with Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue. He is a member of the International Lifesaving Society (ILS) medical advisory committee, member of the International Drowning Research Alliance, honorary medical advisor to Surf Lifesaving GB (including representation on the UKSAR medical group), and has previously sat on the Royal National Lifeboat Institute’s Medical & Survival advisory Committee.
Professor Mike Tipon MBE is the UK’s leading cold-water survival expert, Professor of Human and Applied Physiology at the University of Portsmouth where he is Director of Research for the Department of Sport and Exercise Science and leads the University’s Extreme Environments Laboratory. Mike has been an SLSGB trustee for the last 5 years supporting the charity with search and rescue and lifesaving activity using his knowledge and research in drowning and immersion. Mike recently received the MBE for his services to research and teaching in extreme environmental physiology and research in drowning prevention. Mike’s knowledge and research has been applied to our lifeguard prevention and rescue strategy and is incorporated in all lifesaving, lifeguarding and first aid aquatic education, a key intervention for making our beaches, clubs and communities safer.
So that you don’t miss the opportunity to get your questions answered by these experts we are asking you to send in any that you would like to put to them in advance, the session will then be run using these. We are looking forward to an informative, thought provoking and enjoyable evening in the company of Dr Morgan and Professor Tipton driven by your questions.
