Great Britain team heading to Sanyo Cup, June 2018

Surf Life Saving Great Britain is pleased to announce the team to represent Great Britain at the Sanyo Bussan Lifesaving Cup 2018

Sanyo Bussan Lifesaving Cup is an invitational two-day Test including both ocean and beach events, held annually in Japan. This year’s event will take place in Fukuoka at Momochi Beach. Fukuoka is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture and is situated on the northern shore of the island of Kyushu. Fukuoka is Japan’s fifth largest city with a population of 1.5 million inhabitants and acts as the gateway to western Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. Ranked seventh in 2016’s poll of the World’s Most Liveable Cities, Fukuoka is praised for its green spaces in a metropolitan setting.

The two-day invitational Test between Japan, Great Britain, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Hong Kong will take place on 23rd and 24th June.

The Great Britain team includes three European Champions from the 2017 GBR European Championship team; Emily Corin (European Ski Champion), Louis Garner (European Youth Oceanman Champion) and Maia Garner (European Youth Oceanwoman Champion, and European Youth Board Champion) and Silver medallist in the Surf race, Lily Nicols.

Joining them are Abigail Carson, Andy Houlder, Mali James, and Steven Lewis who all represented Great Britain at last year’s International Surf Rescue Challenge at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.

The team also includes newcomer Eddie Pearce to the High Performance team.

The team will be supported by Team Manager Sara Garner who managed the Great Britain team at Sanyo Bussan Cup 2016 and International Surf Rescue Challenge 2017.
