2018 Sports Events – Advanced Notice

The Sports committee of SLSGB has been working to ensure our sports events are safe and enjoyable for all.

Therefore, we have made some changes for 2018 as follows.

For all National events, entry will close 3 weeks before the event and all competence awards to compete MUST have been completed and a record held on the MIS before any entire will be approved no competency award, no entry!

This is to ensure all competitors hold the relevant competency and is the club’s responsibility to keep the records of their members up to date.

 The table below shows the awards available for Youth, Senior and Masters.

 

2018 Nipper Pool Championships Cardiff

The new junior manikin will be used at the event but for 2018 the rules will not be changed and the manikin will be held on the surface and the manikin will remain buoyant (empty for 8yrs – 10yrs and part filled for 11yrs – 13yrs) for all age groups, 2019 the new rules will be implemented please see attached.

Future Rules of the Nippers Stillwater

A start can be from the diving block on the starting platform, or on the pool deck, or in the water with one hand in contact with the starting wall.

Manikin Carry Race

  1. 8yrs – 10yrs empty manikin
  2. 11yrs – 13yrs full manikin.

When using a 50m Pool, 8yrs-10yrs:

  1. The start will be executed from a dive or preferred entry to the pool.
  2. The Nipper swims 25m (The manikin will be held in the water at the 25m point upright).
  3. The manikin must be in the correct carrying position when the top of the manikin’s head passes the 5m line. The manikin must be held with at least one hand before the designated 5m change-over line. The Nipper must not swim underwater beyond the designated line and must remain at the surface with the manikin throughout the rest of the race.
  4. In the pick up or change over zone the competitors are not judged by the carrying manikin rules.
  5. The manikin must be carried face up and not pushed. Pushing means the manikin’s head is held forward of the competitor’s head. The hold must not be around the throat, mouth, nose or eyes. A front crawl stroke is not permitted.
  6. The finish will be when the end of the pool is touched with the manikin still held by the competitor.

When using a 50m Pool, 11yrs-13yrs:

  1. The start will be executed from a dive or preferred entry to the pool.
  2. The Nipper swims 25m and pick up the manikin from the bottom of the pool
  • The manikin must be in the correct carrying position when the top of the manikin’s head passes the 5m line. The manikin must be held with at least one hand before the designated 5m change-over line. The Nipper must not swim underwater beyond the designated line and must remain at the surface with the manikin throughout the rest of the race.
  1. In the pick up or change over zone the competitors are not judged by the carrying manikin rules.
  2. The manikin must be carried face up and not pushed. Pushing means the manikin’s head is held forward of the competitor’s head. The hold must not be around the throat, mouth, nose or eyes. A front crawl stroke is not permitted.

Note:

Competitors shall not be disqualified if water does cover the manikin’s mouth and nose, so long as the manikin is not below the competitor’s body

MANIKIN RELAY 11yrs, 12yrs & 13yrs only

  1. The start will be in the water.
  2. At the start the Nipper carries the manikin using the rules for the manikin carry.
  3. They transfer the manikin to Nipper No2 within the 4m change-over zone between 23m-27m mark.
  4. The changeover must always have one hand from each competitor in contact with the manikin.
  5. Nipper No3 holds onto the side of the pool until the second Nipper touches the end and then transfers the hold.
  6. Nipper No3 transfers at the half way mark to the last Nipper who carries the manikin and the race stops then Nipper No4 touches the end.
  7. The carry must be in accordance to the rules of the manikin carry.

Note: In the pick up or change over zone the competitors are not judged by the carrying manikin rules.

2018 Youth Pool Championships Cardiff

Rescue 2018 will be help in Adelaide (15th November – 2nd December). As our 15 year olds will be eligible to take part in the Youth event we will be running a 200mt Obstacle event so that they will be able to achieve a qualifying time. More information on the timing of the event will be issued with the 2018 Pool entry forms. 

2018 Ocean Events 

Due to the success of the event and being great hosts, the 2018 Ocean Championships will be returning the Holywell Bay between 18th – 25th August. Due to the growing numbers of Nippers wanting to compete and to allow more flexibility to accommodate weather and ocean conditions, Nippers will be held over 3 days and the event programme rejigged to accommodate as follows..

MASTERS – Saturday/Sunday 18th/19th

YOUTH – Monday/Tuesday 20th/21st

REST DAY – Wednesday 22nd

NIPPERS – Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th

Following feedback from members, there will be a new age group for both pairs and Team events:

  • 60+ Board Rescue
  • 150+ in team events

Looking forward to 2019, Branksome Chine SLSC has put in a bid to host the 2019 week long Ocean event which has been reviewed and accepted by the SLSGB Sports Committee. We are now working with Poole Borough Council to finalise all the arrangement and the proposed date of 17th -24th August 2019.   Just an early heads up!
