SLSGB is a National Charity and Company limited by guarantee. The activities are overseen by a Board of Trustees who are also Directors of the Company and ultimately responsible for the management of the organisation.
We have a small, dedicated management team who are responsible for the day to day running of our Members Services, Lifesaving Search and Rescue, Lifesaving Sport, Lifesaving Education, Safeguarding and Safety activities. Search and Rescue is focussed on Flood Rescue Teams, Terrestrial Search and Rescue and our traditional roots in Lifeguard Patrols.
The Board of Trustees determines the strategy, sets the goals and reviews the outcomes for the organisation. It is involved with all aspects of our activity and Board members are required to be directly involved in the expert led key advisory committees that guide our plans to meet our Charitable Objects to save lives and prevent drowning.
Our ideal trustee may already be a member of the Surf Life Saving family.
We are also seeking those with other relevant skills and experience :-
- Emergency Services – Fire, Police, Ambulance, etc
- Search and Rescue
- Media and Communications
- Lifesaving Sport
- Legal Services
We are a small, ambitious and rapidly evolving organisation with a strong tradition in aquatic lifesaving. The role requires a sleeves rolled up, get involved approach. Relevant experience together with an understanding of how the voluntary sector works together with excellent communication skills are essential. The time commitment to fulfil the role will be 12 days per year minimum with a core of 4 weekdays.
- Trustees are Directors of the organisation and need to be familiar with and understand the governance requirements.
- Trustees must attend quarterly Board meetings.
- Trustees are expected to attend a cross section of Lifesaving events throughout the year.
- Trustees will be asked to be a member of SLSGB’s working committees – for example: Lifesaving, Clinical Advisory Group, Sport and Events. Other sub committees are formed from time to advise on key areas of our activities
