Congratulations Barrie Charlesworth and Les Freke!

2017 New Year’s Honours List

We congratulate two of our very outstanding long serving members who will be honoured after being named in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list.

What a fantastic start to the year for both of our volunteers!

Barrie Charlesworth, a member of Croyde and Saunton Sands, will be receiving a British Empire Medal for his services to the community with Heartstart and for his work as a volunteer within our clubs. Barrie, 70, was one of the earliest civilian volunteers with the then North Devon Surf Lifesaving Club and still maintains an active involvement with Devon Region, Croyde and Saunton Sands surf lifesaving clubs and is a founding member  of the Devon SLSGB Flood Rescue Team

Les Freke, the Chair of Tintagel will also receive a British Empire Medal for his 12 years as community first responder and to recognise his lifesaving work for the club. During the early years of Surf Life Saving GB, Les took a leading role in the development of current training manuals helping to professionalise the National Lifeguard Qualification.

The honour system recognises those who have made outstanding contributions in public life and who have committed themselves to serving the public.
