In January 2016, members of South Worcester Flood Rescue Unit commenced their training to become Lowland Search and Rescue Technicians. The additional skills gained on this course will not only enhance their water search and rescue skills but will provide them with a recognised qualification in terrestrial search. Once qualified these team members will be able to assist the blue light services in their communities when lowland searches are required for missing persons, therefore enhancing their ability to serve their community. This training would not be possible without the National Lottery funding which was granted to the team through the Big Lottery Fund.
The team will complete their training over a weekend in early March.
